Turtles
Don’t save the turtles for last, save them now!
I know, char is the environmental geek here and this is not what i normally write but i have a heart. The turtles we always see, hear and not talk about are really going to extinct you know. Although i never really take the effort to see them and sometimes do think that they have nothing to do with me, but somehow i don’t want them to extinct. No doubt this could be the ’natural selection’ of the environment, meaning the prefered organism which could adapt better will win, which in this case live and not extinct. We are putting many species on the verge of bye bye and that is really sad.
We went to see a turtle sanctuary a few years ago and there weren’t really pretty looking but i still want to see them next time. Turtle eggs eating aren’t our city kids fault so we can’t be blamed for that because we don’t even have access to them over here, let alone eating them unless of course you got hold of them and start yummy-ing. Just so you know this is one of the cause of their reducing population. They are round in shape unlike chicken eggs, very similar to ping pong balls. I heard they taste good but why try when you have good old chicken eggs which are commercially made for consuming unlike these turtles’. Plus! We have Omega 3 inserted inside those yummy unfertilised eggs! Omega 3 increases synapses in your brain thus makes you smarter! If you are fed up of chicks, grab a white one, the duck eggs! Don’t turn to turtle eggs just because you want to try something new, at least wait till they are over populated then only you can try.
The diet of these turtles are Jelly-O-Fish. So what resembles Jelly-O-Fish you may ask? They are non other than… Plastic-O-Bags! Yes yes plastic bags. So one day, this cute 100 years old turtle went swimming. Said “hi” to Mr.Octupas and saw Mr. shark had his fin cut off by a fisherman. Then it got hungry and saw a jellyfish floating. “Why not” he told him self and swallowed the blob. “Glup” sounded similar to that. Then suddenly, it died. So the moral of the story is, DO NOT POLLUTE THE SEA AND OCEAN! Turtles assume that plastic bags are jellyfish because they look like one. So the plastic bags killed them. Got stuck some where in their gut All BECAUSE OF YOU!!! So do you feel what i feel now? It is indeed a very sad case. So people, i know there’s nothing much you can do since you are not qualified enough to go into the deep sea and save them, but at least, donate some money so that we can build a better shelter for them. I did my part, and i wish you’ll do yours too.
The Leatherbacks saw a dramatic decline in populations by over 99% over the past 20 years. More than 3,000 nestings were recorded in the 1970’s but only 9 nest were found in 1999. OMG!! none of the eggs have hatched in the past five years. Other species have declined by more than 60% since they were first recorded to nest decades ago. The fate of the Olive Ridley is as ominous as the Leatherbacks as the Leatherbacks, with only a handful of nestings every year.
So how? Very easy! You’ll be donating RM3 by sending an SMS with the text “WWF<space>my full name<space>my e-mail” to 39398. I did some research and if you want to find out more, do visit wwf.org.my to know how your donation will be spent. Visit here for their turtle conservation programme.
