Bananas (this is a hate post)
Chinese who doesn’t know how to speak chinese in malaysia are called as bananas.
Do you know that is really rude and insulting????? Yea, my siblings and I are so called bananas.
We were brought up in national type schools, we don’t know chinese, we don’t know how to read or write chinese, but we know cantonese because our parents speak cantonese as well besides english.
There are chinese who hate bananas because they feel ashamed that we are part of the chinese community. They feel we shouldn’t call our self chinese.
People make fun of us. Talk bad about us. How i know? They usually do that in front of us in chinese, and when they do that usually i can understand what they are saying. It is really magic.
But you know what i find is really ironic is sometimes bananas are even more chinese than those chinese who are not bananas. They think they ‘tai sai’ just because they can talk in mandarin, read and write in chinese. Some of them don’t even know how to use chopstick, don’t even know the chinese culture, don’t even know the difference between chinese food from different clans. They don’t know the taboo things about chinese culture, chinese folklore, and can’t list down the name of common chinese tea drank in malaysia and more. Although my parents don’t know chinese, but they taught us all of these from the meaning of Chinese New Year to the art of drinking chinese tea.
But i don’t insult them. Why? Because my parents exposed us to chinese culture while their parents didn’t. So they didn’t get the chance to learn. My parents were not exposed to chinese and there fore they don’t know so they can’t teach us the language.
There was once, i went for a camp, and my team mates were chinese, i was so surprised how much i know about chinese culture compared to them when they speak chinese at home while i speak english at home. They were asking me the meaning about the chinese festivals in malaysia.
So you tell me who is more chinese?
If people want to compare in these ways, well shame on them. We can have a chopstick battle and see who wins.

i think a Chinese who cant speak in chinese is ok.. but don’t act like we speak English are high educated,u guys cant speak are low class..
i can speak Chinese,but i never laugh at those who cant speak.. for those who cant speak and trying to show off,i will ask them,”have u ever seen a Britain cannot speak in english?

char after i learn cina i will still be a babana coz i like being a babana =D makes me special! wee~

and hor… some learn english during school days but cant speak english also… got chance to learn but dun want to learn. we all no chance you know coz around us were all malay speakers. wont that be worst than us? so they have no right to poke wif us loh. no rights char. not even a lil bit. if they do, they deserve to rot in a cucumber. but of course now we slowly learn la… slowly… slowly… we will prevail! victory will be ours!!

oh yea..i’ll be the referee..so do i get free dinners?..muaha..actually i don’t hold the chopstick in correct way. My chopstick crosses and i’m too stupid to learn the correct way of holding.i fail to ”kiap” food if i hold in correct position. don’t know why, just too weak.
i’m no more chinese. XD
